Why a Wine Blog???

LETTER FROM THE EDITOR, BENTLEY HALE-JOHNSON
My enthusiasm for wine developed before I could legally drink it! Tagging along with family on wine tasting strolls throughout Paso Robles sparked my interest in wine at a young age- the beautiful wine country scenery and the laughter in the tasting rooms allowed me to appreciate wine culture without ever having a sip of it. (Ok, I might have snuck a sip here and there)
Along with exploring different wine regions while growing up, working in restaurants over the years has helped develop my interest and appreciation for food and wine. I've worked my way up the ranks in the restaurant world from being a hostess in high school, to serving then bartending, and moving up to restaurant management and wines sales. Hosting staff wine trainings, creating wine lists with pairing menus, and hosting special wine event dinners have always been my forte which eventually led me to start Sip Happens Wine School.
The idea of starting a blog came to me in 2013 after a bad glass of wine and a boring night in front of the TV. I was so frustrated I had wasted money on wine that was supposed to be good based on all the high scores and medals and wanted to share the news with my friends so they wouldn't waste their money either- so I decided to create a small Facebook wine review group. Well, if you’ve ever been on Facebook groups you know they are full of nonsense groups about “Yo’ Mamma" jokes and celebrity gossip. To say the least, I realized that my wine review group wasn’t meant to be lost in the crowd of Facebook gibberish- no offense Facebook, you know I still check you every day. Essentially, that’s how this blog really began; but before then, I was also searching for the perfect wine site to subscribe to and hadn’t found one that I really liked. (I’ll be honest here, there are plenty of wine blogs to choose from BUT most of them are filled with overwhelming sophisticated wine terminology that makes the average wine drinker feel like an outsider.) It can get quite frustrating trying to decipher all the wine jibber-jabber before boredom sets in and you end up saying “Honey, can you grab me a beer?”
Consequently, with my Facebook group failure and my search for a fun, easy-to-read site, I came up with the idea to start my own wine blog! Fast forward to today- here we are with Sip Happens Blog and our new project Sip Happens Wine School! Take a look around, I hope you can learn something new and enjoy reading our posts as much as we enjoy putting them together. Stay tuned for exciting posts coming your way!

The Wine Review Process:
Sip Happens Blog has compiled a system for reviewing the wines on our site. We keep it simple; if we see a wine we are drawn to or have heard about, we taste it! Sounds dummy proof to you? That is our goal: to bring the simplicity of wine to everyone in an easy to understand concept. We even have our own wine tasting cards that are available to download for our readers to use at home! Click on the PDF document below to download; {print on 8 1/2"x11" paper}
